Our new build
1 year reflection
Dec 3, 2023
We wanted to give our New England Colonial a classic refresh for the holidays this year. From the outside, guests are welcomed by evergreen wreaths on the windows, tied off with red ribbon bows. Our friend helped us hang these, and it only took a few hours to create this look! At night the landscape spot lights illuminate these beautifully as you can imagine “Sleigh Ride” playing in the background.
Inside, we focused most of the holiday décor on the main floor of our home. In the kitchen, Edward made a simple asymmetrical wreath with a 19″ gold floral hoop and a few stems we found at Michaels. Our dinette features a small tree that we enjoy hanging ornaments dedicated to both of us. We decided to hang needlepoint stockings from the staircase risers, and we’ll await the fun of Christmas morning with our puppy Mitzi, who also has her own personalized sock!
The family room is a space in our home that is the perfect blend of cozy and spacious. The room features 13′ coffered-style ceilings, which add an architectural detail that is both striking and timeless. The coffered design creates a feeling of depth and grandeur. Additionally, the ceilings add a touch of sophistication that elevates the entire space.
One of the most notable features of the family room is the transom windows that allow natural light to pour in. The windows are placed high on the wall, above the picture window. The windows also add to the overall elegance of the room, as they create a sense of openness and airiness that is refreshing and inviting.
Since the room is so large, it took us a while to find the perfect rug. As we celebrate one year in our home, we found a 9′ x 12′ rug from Tumble to complete the space. We ordered it online, and it arrived neatly packaged with easy-to-follow instructions, a cushioned rug pad, and silicone grippers! Say goodbye to the annoying corner curl! The Tabor in Natural/Ash complements our wide-plank brown oak flooring and draws your eye upward to our 9′ tall Christmas tree.
Accidents are bound to happen. The spill-proof coating causes liquids to bead up so you can quickly wipe them away! The rug is also machine washable. Making your home cozy and safe is important. Tumble uses non-toxic materials. They are safe for kids and of course, pets too! Find out more about Tumble here.
In the backyard, we decided to bring some fun to the woods with our DIY Everycolor Trees. Edward created a template and we projected this onto plywood. Then using a jigsaw, we cut these out and interlocked the pieces together. Of course we couldn’t make just one, so we created three in heights ranging from 5′ to 9′! Next it was time to spray paint them in 10 different colors, with a geometric pattern. After a few days drying, we placed them in their natural habitat.
Safe to say, these have become a hit not only from inside looking out, but the neighbors are loving them. Our next door neighbors liked them so much, they gave us spot lights to put on them at night! Whether it’s sunny, cloudy, raining or snowing, the Everycolor Trees are a really great addition to our outdoor landscape!
From our family to yours, we wish you a warm and cozy holiday season. Let us know how you decorate your home this time of year in the comments below!
