Dining Room
Overview
The stage left upon entering our home is the Dining Room. This space was essential to us, and we wanted our home to feature spaces historic to yesterday. Yet it was equally important to have a room we’d like to use daily and for special occasions. We spent a year planning the furnishings and design throughout living here.
Our moodboard
We chose to continue the hard surface flooring in this room as it is in the foyer and adjacent Study. A large 9’ x 12’ rug from Homesense offers cool tones in the room. The kitchen is accessible through our Butler’s Pantry with floor-to-ceiling cabinetry and a counter that we use for our espresso machine.
We love the heirloom hutch with a lovely walnut finish and antique brass mesh glass doors. But the room needed a beautiful focal point beyond our chosen expandable table, buffet sideboard, and transitional pendant light.
Partnering with Lowe’s, we added box molding and a checkerboard plaid (some say gingham) painting technique to the walls to transform the space into something warm and inviting. It is airy and timeless.
Bringing it all together
We cannot wait to host friends and family here. We’re planning our first party and hoping guests will go along with our idea to style themselves in woven patterns to complement the room! How fun will that be?
This room will serve as a special meeting area as we continue to dream and plan projects. We can also enjoy eating in here occasionally as Mitzi lies between our legs, hoping something drops from our plate to nibble on. And then, it will be a wonderful center for our future children’s birthdays and holidays as a family.

We chose to complement an heirloom hutch cabinet from the family with furniture from Crate & Barrel. We love the look of our expandable table with its walnut finish against the black chairs. Then, off to the side, our new buffet is ready for hosting as it contrasts nicely on the wall.
