Overview
Step into a room that feels like a warm, desert embrace. Drawing inspiration from the Southwest's unique culture, climate, and geography, we're creating a space that celebrates ancestry and brings the warmth of the desert to the Midwest. By heat, we mean familiar, unless you’re like me and sometimes want to be a lizard and sunbathe!
Guests in our home are unique, and we like to give them a special place for them to retreat to rest. Enter our primary guest bedroom. We are themed after the American Southwest, paying homage to Edward’s hometown in the Rio Grande Valley and our love of the desert-scapes in Arizona.

We’re bringing the American Southwest home! Our primary guest bedroom is another example of how travel inspires our design.
We installed wainscoting with 1/4” plywood and chair-rail molding, then painted Sherwin Williams Pure White to match the trim color. We then used our Cricut Maker to create a custom stencil with a pattern of cacti, agave, and other elements influenced by South Texas and Arizona. Painting 70 replications with Behr Conifer Green took some time, but we couldn’t be happier!
We had a large print framed of a photograph we took in Sedona, Arizona. Bedding from Target in a Cognac color brings the earthy terra cotta we love into space. Walnut wood-stained furniture with black hardware grounds the room.
We couldn’t be more thrilled with the unique look of Kirsch Banded Shades for the window coverings. The bands of sheer and beautiful Golden Shine Zane striped fabric allow for a balance of light filtering and privacy. Raised halfway, guests can have additional light pour in or a moody look as they settle in! These will stand the test of time with the quality and durability Kirsch is known for.
Bringing it all together
We hosted our friends this summer, and they loved the guest bedroom. We designed the space with comfort and rejuvenation in mind. The luggage rack is waiting on our next guests to arrive, and we’ll continue to fill our home with love and share more stories.
